Here are a few important tips and best practices for using Articulate software on a Mac with Parallels.

Disable the Shared Profile

  • Shared clipboard between the Windows 8 virtual machine and the Mac does not work. Windows drive is not mounted on the Mac Desktop when virtual machine is running. Not able to launch any Windows application from the Dock. Drag and drop between Windows and Mac does not work. One of Parallels Tools components (prlcc.exe) hasn't been.
  • Confidently work on Mac files in Windows by engaging the 'safe removal check' to ensure files in shared folders are not accidentally deleted. Work more efficiently with Mac admin password bypass when installing Parallels Desktop updates and utilize intelligent disk detection when operating virtual machines on extra disks. Linux and Mac VMs.

Disable the shared profile in Parallels, so all the default Windows folders reside in the Windows environment, not the native Mac environment. For more information on this topic, see this Parallels article.

After disabling the shared profile, uninstall and reinstall your Articulate software. (This step is only necessary if shared profiles were previously enabled.)

Work Exclusively in the Windows Environment

Save and publish Articulate projects in the Windows environment, not the Mac. For example: C:UsersAdministratorDocuments

Don't work from a network drive or an external USB drive. Doing so can result in file corruption or loss of resources due to latency.

I often copy/paste hyperlinks from a Windows server path into Outlook:Mac 2011. I do this up to 15 times a day, and all of the sudden it isn't working. It will only paste from things that I have copied in the Mac platform and not through Parallels. Scenario 1: For example, I copy the plaintext password in the text in MACOS, and paste it in the remote desktop of the PD guest Windows 10 to Windows Server 2012 R2. It is very bad and cannot be pasted successfully. Here I use the shortcut key command +v. Parallels Desktop lets you easily switch between Mac and Windows without ever needing to reboot—unlike Boot Camp. With Parallels Desktop, copy and paste text or drag and drop objects between Mac and Windows. Open Windows applications side by side with your macOS applications, without having to restart your Mac.

Audio, video, and image resources must be located in the Windows environment, not the Mac. Copy and paste files you need for Articulate projects to the Windows environment prior to inserting them into your content.

When working with Microsoft Office (e.g., when importing PowerPoint slides into Storyline), Office apps must be installed in your Windows environment.

Set Links to Always Open in Windows

Copy

In Parallels, set links to always open in Windows (the default setting). Articulate 360 requires access to a browser in the virtual environment for authentication.

Disable Retina Resolution for Windows

If you're using a Mac with a Retina display, you may find that user interface elements in Articulate apps are small and difficult to read. To correct it, disable Retina resolution for your Windows virtual machine.

Windows 10

  1. Start Parallels Desktop, but don't start your Windows virtual machine.
  2. Go to Configuration > Hardware > Graphics.
  3. Set your Resolution to Scaled.
  4. Close the menu and start your virtual machine.

Windows 8

Turn Coherence Mode Off

We don't recommend using Coherence mode. It can cause graphical anomalies or even make Windows apps freeze up. See this Parallels article for instructions.

Good news! But it's embarrassing...

This was self-inflicted.

I was setting up a keystroke command in Keyboard Maestro ('KM') when I was interrupted by a call. You can probably guess the rest, so I'll save the part about getting distracted with something else off-computer after the call.

I finally went back to completing a post in a forum elsewhere, which is where I needed to use the new keyed command (and will be using it frequently in the future). That took me back to KM to finish the setup.

The problem? I didn't think I had completed the setup. But I had, saving it to the worst keystroke combo possible, Command+v. I've no idea how I did that since it was going to be option-control-y (in a 'family' of related option-control commands).

So yeah...

It turns out that KM's Command+v overrides the Mac's! And that explains how I kept getting the same text, no matter what I cut or copied beforehand.

Sorry about that. If there's a moderator around, feel free to delete. Or if you feel it's an object lesson in the potential for self-inflicted injury, leave it be.

It does point out one good question to ask that I didn't see in any other thread...

'Do you have any software that inserts text into the clipboard? If so, were you using it before this problem happened?'

Hey - I'm trying to turn a 🍋 into some lemonade here.😳

Not

If there had been no phone call or distraction after the call, and even if I had saved it as command-V at the time (not likely), I would have realized the problem with my very next paste. But life happens and time goes by - so it seems reasonable to ask.

I mean, Command+v? It's the last keystroke combo that anyone would use. When I typed the post above, I had checked everything in these forums and elsewhere - but never made the connection...

I still have no idea how I saved it as Command+v - I should probably double my meds.

Sorry about that.
